The Richest Women in the World 2015

It was yet another record year for women on the new FORBES list of the World’s Billionaires. Of a total 1,826 billionaires, 197 are women, up from 172 in 2014. That’s a nice gain, but women still account for just a small percentage of the list — 11% of the total.

Cities With the Most Vacant Homes for Sale or Rent

here is some bad news for people hoping to find a good deal on a home to rent or buy: The vacancy rate for American homes fell by 9.3 percent over the past two quarters, a new report shows. RealtyTrac's analysis of residential property vacancies for the first quarter of this year, which was released this week, shows that only 1.6 percent of residential properties were vacant at the beginning of February. Daren Blomquist, RealtyTrac vice president, says most U.S. real estate markets have too few vacant homes. In a press release, he explains the possible side effects of such a low vacancy rate:

3 Tips for Your Holiday Gift Budget

The holidays are almost here, and that means gift-giving season is right right around the corner. Unfortunately, that also means buying expensive presents for friends and loved ones. Luckily, there are ways to buy that perfect gift without unraveling your savings. First, when it comes to buying gifts, figure out how much you can afford. Financial advisers suggest spending no more than 1.5% of your annual take-home income during the holiday season. For example, if your annual take-home income is $50,000, just multiply $50,000 by 0.015 and you'll see that your holiday budget should be $750

8 Millionaire Money Tips for the Rest of Us

If you're barely getting by, it may seem crazy to try to emulate a millionaire. After all, millionaires have a ton of money, and you don't. And while some millionaires used their wisdom and wit to get where they are, there are presumably plenty out there who were born wealthy and had numerous advantages growing up. But advice for the rich is often universal, and there's a lot we can learn from the wealthiest of the wealthy. With that in mind, we tapped some financial advisors who represent millionaires and asked them to share advice they give their clients that also applies to the rest of us.

Top 10 Most Embarrassing Money Topics

Being financially literate, or understanding all aspects of your financial life, is crucial to becoming confident about money. But often, we're too embarrassed or uncomfortable to talk about money openly. According to a 2013 Wells Fargo survey of over 1,000 adults, 44 percent of respondents said "personal finances" is the hardest topic to discuss with others, followed by "death" at 38 percent and "politics" at 35 percent. Money topics such as debt, student loans, salary, credit scores and even saving for the future can cause paralyzing anxiety. A 2014 National Foundation for Credit Counseling study on financial literacy showed that only 2 in 5 adults believe that, if their money could talk, it would say. "We've been a successful team."

Stranger Pledges to Pay Future College Costs for 26 Kindergartners

The 51-year-old Burbank and his wife, Seon Chun-Burbank, a professor at Vanguard University, had plans to buy a new 40-foot sailboat just a few short months ago. But that plan changed after Burbank heard a December church sermon on giving. "Sailing has been a big part of my life," Burbank, who began sailing at age 3, told the OC Register. "(But) the boat seemed like a real selfish thing to me at that point. This is something significant that I think is going to impact a lot more people than just me." Burbank's offer includes funding two years of community college and two years at a California state university (or the equivalent if they plan on attending a different college), plus money for books for teacher Tessa Ashton's entire class of kindergartners – the Class of 2032.

Are you engaged? Getting engaged soon? Hoping to get engaged someday? No matter where you are in the process, it's worth thinking about how you want to make the statement. If you're considering doing something non-traditional, there are many ways to personalize your engagement and make it stand out from others. Here are some frugal ideas for you.

7 Things Financially Successful People Refuse to Do

Perhaps you want to pay off debt, save $2 million for retirement, or give more than you ever thought possible. One of the best ways to get where you want to go in life is to look at the lives of those who have arrived. How did they accomplish these goals? What made the difference for them? Are these things you can do, too? Sometimes, it's easy to put limitations on ourselves. We think that because of this or that circumstance, we'll never reach our goals. Why think like that? Is that helpful? Of course not. The truth is, ordinary people can do extraordinary things. But it's not just what they choose to do that matters, it's what they refuse to do that matters as well. Let's take a look at some things enormously financially successful people refuse to do.
